DuQuoin Lights Up

This Saturday, July 7, 2001 will be the first time the lights will be turned on for the FedEx DuQuoinMile AMA Progressive Insurance US Flat Track AMA National Championshipraces. All three classes, the Stars of the elite Grand National class will share the limelight with big motored SuperTrapp SuperTrackers and the Harley-DavidsonSportster Performance classes. The inaugural night race at the DuQuoinState Fairground's "Magic Mile" track will be lit by the brand newMusco Lighting system. Musco is the pioneer of premier race tracklighting with the Daytona and Charlotte NASCAR tracks to it's credit...

A modified schedule will have practice at 12.30 p.m. with scratchqualifying heats for all three classes at 1:30. Then at 3 p.m. theregular H-D Sportster and SuperTracker heats will be run.

A giant pre-race party will be held in front of the Grand Stand from 4until 7 p.m. In addition to music, dancing, cold beer and great eats, aspecial "Meet the Riders" session will be held. Fans will be amazed bythe Wheelie Wizard Tyler Shepard and his incredible performance. Duringthe party the pits will be open.

Then at 7:30 p.m. the stars of the Progressive Insurance Grand NationalSeries will hit the track for an evening of 140 mph side by side draftingwars. With four heats, three semis, a Harley-Davidson Sportster final, aSuperTrapp SuperTracker final and the 25 lap Grand National final, fansare in for an entertaining night of racing under the lights.

After the racing, a fireworks display will help celebrate the ourIndependence Day weekend.

Camping is available on the beautiful DuQuoin State Fairgrounds by thelakes under the oak trees.
