Moto Guzzi Celebrates 90th Anniversary

Guzzi World Days to be held in September

Moto Guzzi is marking its 90th anniversary, announcing a celebration at its birthplace in Mandello del Lario, Italy.

The Italian motorcycle manufacturer will hold its celebration at the Giornate Mondiali Guzzi (Guzzi World Days) in mid-September. Thousands ofMoto Guzzienthusiasts are expected to attend the celebration and tour the renovated and modernized original Moto Guzzi factory in Mandello del Lario.

Moto Guzzi was established March 15, 1921 in Genoa by shipowner Emanuele Vittorio Parodi, his son Giorgio, and his friend Carlo Guzzi. Parodi and Guzzi selected the winged eagle symbol for the Moto Guzzi emblem in honor of Giovanni Ravelli, a motorcycle racer and pilot they served with in the Italian Air Force who was killed in an Aug. 11, 1919 test flight.

The Piaggio-owned brand is credited with several innovations such as the industrys first wind tunnel, the first use of linked brakes on a motorcycle, and the first center stand.

For its 90th year, Moto Guzzi is introducing two updated-for -2011 models, the Norge GT 8V sport tourer and the Stelvio NTX 1200 4V adventure tourer.

Moto Guzzi USA has alsolaunched a new blog to celebrate the brands 90th anniversary. The site will be updated every Monday for nine weeks and features photographs and information about key Moto Guzzi models from each of the companys nine decades. Visitors can also submit their own Moto Guzzi stories to share.
